Head Chair Introduction: Alana Yang
Hello delegates!
My name is Alana Yang and I will be your Head Chair for this year's International Bioethics Committee at BMUN LXXI. I'm very excited to hear you all debate some topics that I believe are important to understand as biotechnology grows increasingly prominent.
I'm a second-year majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology and Data Science. Other activities I'm involved in include being a part of biotechnology-based business organization on campus and working for a Berkeley lab studying CRISPR. This is my first time being a Head Chair for BMUN, but Model UN is very near and dear to my heart—I attended my first conference in 8th grade and have been involved in the activity ever since.
As a biology nerd myself, I'm excited to delve into the bioethics of this year's Topic A on genomics and CRISPR technology. As for Topic B, I look forward to hearing your viewpoints on biohacking and the role that regulation should play in biological research. My hope for this year's conference is to provide you with an understanding of trends in biotechnology and encourage you all to think about how these advancements apply to your lives.
I'm very excited to see you all bring your ideas and stances to the table at the conference this year. With that said, if you have any questions or concerns leading up to the coming weeks, please contact ibcbmunlxxi@bmun.org.
Sincerely,
Alana
